The exception is the macro lens–which makes you come right up close in general to the subject. The lenses themselves don’t have focusing capabilities but instead use what the iPhone can do. But the real quality comes with post-production. Straight out of the camera, the image quality is very sharp and it’s indeed possible for you to get bokeh with the telephoto and macro lenses. It’s easy for your fingerprints to get on the lenses of your phone, so make sure that they’re always clean–same goes for the Exolenses. What you’re going to need to remember when you go out shooting is that both the Exolenses and the phone need to have clean optics. In the situation of the case though, be careful how you hold it. For what it’s worth though, this still isn’t my favorite case at all.īoth the case and lenses are designed with a solid, hearty build. ![]() To be fair, I wasn’t holding it properly. On top of that, a part the lens case is pretty sharp and actually cut my finger open at one point or another. So you’ll only want to use them when you’ve got the full intent of going out and creating photos. But the phone with the lens attached isn’t anywhere as pocketable as what Moment offers photographers. ![]() Build QualityĬarrying these lenses around isn’t honestly so bad. Of course, the lenses are also pretty big overall with the exception of the macro lens. It makes sense in some ways, but in other ways it’s actually quite infuriating.Īdditionally, the case tends to completely cover up the phone’s flash. On one side, you’ll find a cold shoe while the other side has a tripod socket. While this screw-in method provides a lot of security, what you’ll be really confused by is the case itself. This ensures a tight fit that is the most secure that I’ve ever seen with mobile lenses. Of course, there is no focusing ring here, but it’s overall what you’d expect from Zeiss in many ways.Įach lens mounts into the case by screwing it in–just like one would with a screwmount lens camera. When you look at the Zeiss Exolenses, you’ll see that they are designed to very closely resemble the Milvus lineup. The Zeiss ExoLenses were tested with the iPhone 6s.Ī lot of the specs are available on the Zeiss Exolens website, and there are quite a bit of them. While the lenses are pretty wonderful, I can’t exactly say the same thing about the case. Though currently only available for the iPhone and Samsung phones, the lenses will offer photographers a significant improvement in image quality providing they take the right steps. ![]() The company makes three lenses that we tested: a wide angle, a telephoto, and a macro. Moment and PhotoJoJo make great optics, and it only makes sense that one of the best lens makers in the world wanted to get involved. A felt backing on the bracket protects the iPhone from scrapes.Lots of people who call themselves photographers may not necessarily take mobile lenses seriously but the truth is that they’re actually quite good, especially in the case of the Zeiss Exo Lenses. The ExoLens bracket features a durable aluminum construction and has a standard screw-in tripod mount, as well as a shoe mount to attach an additional accessory like a light or microphone. The lens attaches to the iPhone via the ExoLens bracket (not included). ![]() True to Zeiss legendary lens quality, the A La Carte Macro Lens delivers outstanding sharpness with no light loss or color artifacts. Įarly versions of the prayer are given no title, but it was called the Serenity Prayer in a 1950 AA Grapevine journal of Alcoholics Anonymous. Niebuhr first published it in 1951, in a magazine column. It then also appeared in a sermon of Niebuhr's in the 1944 Book of Prayers and Services for the Armed Forces. Niebuhr, to whom the prayer has been most often attributed, first presented it in a form for which records remain a 1943 sermon at Heath Evangelical Union Church in Heath, Massachusetts. The prayer spread rapidly, often without attribution, through church groups in the 1930s and 1940s and was adopted and popularized by Alcoholics Anonymous in 1941 and other twelve-step programs. Whenever it was first conceived or penned, it appeared in print at least as early as 1933, associated with Winnifred Wygal alone. The prayer originally asked for courage first, and specifically for changing things that must be changed, not things that simply can be changed:įather, give us courage to change what must be altered, serenity to accept what cannot be helped, and the insight to know the one from the other. God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,Īnd the wisdom to know the difference. Since at least the early 1960s, commercial enterprises such as Hallmark have used the prayer in its greeting cards and gift items. ![]() Regardless of origins, the prayer has achieved very wide distribution, appearing throughout church groups later in the 1930s, and in Alcoholics Anonymous and related organizational materials since at least 1941. Despite this history and confusion, William FitzGerald takes Wygal's case, arguing sexism as the reason for misattribution, while Fred Shapiro's work, with greater nuance, has alternated his conclusions, but presents both the messages that the "rigin is debated" and Wygal as author in materials relating to the The New Yale Book of Quotations, published in 2021. ![]() The written prayer has been alternatively attributed to the American theologian Reinhold Niebuhr (1892–1971), (his having claimed authorship, and its having been used in a 1943 sermon by him in Heath, Massachusetts, and thereafter), but also to Niebuhr colleague Winnifred Crane Wygal, who presented it March 1933, and again in a 1940 book (in the latter case attributing it to Niebuhr). The Serenity Prayer is an invocation by the petitioner for wisdom to understand the difference between circumstances ("things") that can and cannot be changed, asking courage to take action in the case of the former, and serenity to accept in the case of the latter. Looking at the third example above, we’ll calculate the inventory rate based on 365 days. It would take approximately 11 days to replenish inventory in this example. Using the clothing store example with an inventory turnover ratio of eight, we’ll calculate the replenishment time frame based on one-quarter’s worth of inventory (90 days). If the period in question is one year, or 365 days, then it would take approximately seven days to replenish inventory on average. ![]() Take the automotive parts store with an inventory turnover rate of 50. Inventory Turnover Rate = Days in Period / (COGS / Average Inventory) Example 1 This calculation tells you how many days it takes to sell the inventory on hand. The inventory turnover rate takes the inventory turnover ratio and divides that number into the number of days in the period. ![]() In this case, a low turnover ratio could indicate poor inventory management. Having a low inventory turnover may be caused by over-purchasing inventory that doesn’t sell as fast as other types of products. ![]() If your COGS is $200,000 and your average inventory is $50,000, your turnover ratio would be four ($200,000 / $50,000 = 4). Perhaps you have a company with a low inventory turnover, which means you don’t replenish inventory very often. This means the store is changing the inventory eight times in the given time period. This yields an inventory turnover ratio of eight ($160,000 / $20,000 = 8). Assume the retailer has $160,000 in COGS with $20,000 in average inventory. Example 2Ī clothing retailer generally has a lower turnover ratio. This is an industry where high turnover ratios are common. That means that the automotive parts store is going through inventory 50 times in the defined period of time. Inventory Turnover Ratio = COGS / Average Inventory Value Example 1Īn automotive parts store has a COGS of $500,000 with an average inventory of $10,000. The information for this equation is available on the income statement (COGS) and the balance sheet (average inventory). This equation will tell you how many times the inventory was turned over in the time period. Inventory turnover is calculated by dividing the cost of goods sold (COGS) by the average value of the inventory. ![]() 8/11/2023 0 Comments Quintessencelabs 25m main sequence![]() ![]() ![]() Hijacking a flaw in diodes to harness quantum physics, Australia’s QuintessenceLabs has built a full-entropy quantum random number generator with a 1Gbps output.QuintessenceLabs announced that it has recently raised a A$25 million round of capital funding led by Main Sequence and TELUS Ventures, with participation from Mizuho Financial Group-backed InterValley Ventures and Terry Snow’s Capital Property Group. While the flight crew prepared for takeoff, Marty led them through the preflight checklist, which you can hear on the cockpit voice recorder from that day. As a pilot, colleagues regarded Marty as humble, competent, and professional. He’d once windsurfed solo across the Atlantic Ocean, and he often stowed his mountain bike in the plane’s cargo hold. The pilot of the Concorde that day, Captain Christian Marty, was an adventure seeker in his spare time. But the rivets had come loose, and the glue had failed to hold, and no one had seen it fall onto the runway at de Gaulle. The strip wasn’t a standard part of the DC-10 a mechanic had riveted it on in Houston 16 days earlier, and then affixed it with an additional layer of mastic adhesive. T he immediate cause of the Concorde crash was a thin, 1-inch-wide titanium strip, just 17 inches long, which had fallen off the engine cowling of a departing Continental DC-10 five minutes before Flight 4590 was scheduled to depart. But it would be many years before the aircraft’s first commercial flights began in 1976. Two weeks later, on October 1, the plane would go supersonic for the first time. Is it worth a second chance?Ĭoncorde 001 lands in an arresting fence during a test flight in Toulouse, France, on September 18, 1968. Supersonic commercial travel is seductive, but it is also difficult and costly. Above all, Scholl and his team of engineers must demonstrate that they have eliminated the fatal flaws that contributed to the Concorde’s crash. Boom must not only prove to air carriers that the planes are a sound investment, but also convince the public that supersonic flight is environmentally acceptable. To succeed, Boom must address the engineering challenges that limited the Concorde to the North Atlantic, as well as the commercial challenges that reserved supersonic travel for a narrow elite. company that’s designing a successor aircraft to the Concorde called the Boom Overture. Everything’s changed,” says Blake Scholl, the founder and CEO of Boom Technology, a U.S. “Remember, that airplane was designed 60 years ago, with slide rules and draft paper and wind tunnels-and no computer. Now a new generation of entrepreneurs and engineers is attempting to revive commercial supersonic flight in the wake of the Concorde’s demise. Following the disaster outside Charles de Gaulle, the era of supersonic passenger transit came to an end. The Concorde never attracted commercial competition, and plans for a successor aircraft were abandoned. Once hoping for more than 200 aircraft, the Concorde program, sponsored by the governments of France and the United Kingdom, entered only 14 planes into commercial service, and that handful of planes flew only two regular routes due to the aircraft’s thundering sonic booms and exclusive $12,000 round-trip ticket price. Flight 4590 became the final word in the Concorde’s legacy: one that started with the glimmering luster of a technological marvel but faded from the limitations of suboptimal design features and paralyzing commercial restrictions. Concorde service resumed in 2001, but passenger demand never recovered, and in 2003 the plane was permanently retired. Within a month, the entire Concorde fleet was grounded, and the ensuing investigation would take almost a year and a half to complete. Rescue workers arrived to find the crash site littered with debris, including the Concorde’s signature nose cone, pieces of the wings, the contents of the passengers’ luggage, and a hotel bathtub. The crew valiantly attempted to save it, but after a minute of flight, the raging fire overtook the aircraft, and it crashed into a small hotel six miles from the airport. Transformed into a careening fireball, the Concorde barely managed to get airborne, reaching an altitude of just 200 feet. But midway through the takeoff, in an astonishing scene witnessed by dozens of people, the Concorde caught fire and was soon blasting the tarmac with a plume of flames longer than the airliner itself. The plane’s four Rolls-Royce engines came online with a terrific roar, and the Concorde began to hurtle down the runway. In 24 years of service, the Concorde had never experienced a single fatality. Air France Flight 4590 was scheduled to fly to New York City at speeds of up to 1,350 miles per hour, crossing the Atlantic Ocean in just three and a half hours. A s the Concorde prepared to take off from Charles de Gaulle Airport outside Paris on the afternoon of July 25, 2000, nothing seemed amiss. ![]() |
